Department's undergraduate students showcase their research prowess
at the ChBE Final Year Project Poster Presentation cum Annual Alumni Lecture 2007
The ChBE annual undergraduate Final Year Project Poster Presentation was held from 6 to 8 March 2007. The Poster Presentation is a public presentation by our final year students on their research project taken as part of their graduation requirement. This event is an opportunity for our students to showcase their creativity and research potential. More than 270 posters were on display this year, on topics representing the Departments' research thrust areas - namely, in the areas of Biomolecular & Biomedical Engineering, Chemical & Biological Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering Sciences, Environmental Science & Engineering, and Functionalized and Nanostructured Materials & Devices. The presence of about 30 invited guests from the industry and research institutes on the last day of the event added much excitement to the students. Many of the visitors also took the opportunity to interview and recruit students. They were impressed with the wide ranging research activities and quality of work carried out by the final year students. Some of the visitors, who are also our alumni, were glad to meet with faculty members who were once their lecturers.

In conjunction with the Final Year Research Project Poster Presentation, the Department also organized its Annual Alumni Lecture on 8 March 2007. Inaugurated five years ago, the objective of the Annual Alumni Lecture series is to provide a platform for our Alumni to share with our graduating students their experience and knowledge gained over the years, with a view to inspire our students as they get ready to enter the professional world. This year, the Alumni Lecture was delivered by Mr Yap Chin Foo, our alumni who graduated with a BEng (Chemical) in 1988 and MSc (Environmental Engineering) in 2001. He shared his insights and experience on establishing a career in Japanese MNCs.

The day ended in high spirits with an award presentation to the best three projects in each research category, and the best overall project. The students also voted for their favourite posters.
