Remembering the Good Old Days

Class of 1988 NUS Chemical Engineering 21st Anniversary Reunion Dinner

That Saturday night (17 January 2009) was memorable for a special group of friends. 24 out of the 41 contactable alumni from the NUS Chemical Engineering Graduating Class of 1988 came together to celebrate the 21st anniversary after graduation.

The overwhelming response to the reunion call was impressive. It felt good to be seeing old friends, enjoying that camaraderie all over again and catching up with each other. As the old photos of yester-years were dished out proudly by the organizing committee in the function room at the NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House, the class drowned in sentimentality together. Peals of laughter abounded as they recognized each other amidst the markedly different body shapes and hair styles. A class reunion is incomplete without a class quiz. Everyone struggled with the attempt to list the undergraduate subjects or cost of the bus fare and tuition fees, all of which have become totally unimportant now. But the Class of 1988 did what it does best – taking a class photo. All were so familiar with this class ritual that it took them less than a minute to get their acts together in organizing themselves for a picture perfect for the photographer. Everyone was reluctant to let the night end without musing on the good old days to their hearts' content. The organizing committee was encouraged by the Class's eagerness for the next reunion and did not hesitate to answer the call to serve for another term! We could not have asked for a happier ending to this extraordinary reunion!
